HOUSTON (ICIS)–Canada’s Interpipeline has completed 50% of the construction work at their new propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and polypropylene (PP) complex in Strathcona County, Alberta, Canada, according to a November 2019 construction update posted on the company’s website.

Craig McInnis, Project Director, Polypropylene Project, Heartland Petrochemical Project with Interpipeline said that the project is on schedule and on budget.

“The piling programme at the complex is 96% complete as is most of the concrete work. The next phrase of construction involves erecting the structural steel. The majority of the equipment has been delivered to the site and the majority of the structural steel and piping is starting to arrive,” McInnis said.

The project is expected to be completed in 2021. The PDH and PP plants will both have capacities of 525,000 tonnes/year.

PP is used for packaging, ropes, carpets, plastic parts, loudspeakers and automotive parts.

Major US PP producers include Braskem, ExxonMobil, Formosa, INEOS, LyondellBasell, Phillips 66 and Total Petrochemicals.
