LONDON (ICIS)–Click here to see the latest blog post on Asian Chemical Connections. China’s polyethylene (PE) imports in 2021 could total either 19.8m tonnes or 16.8m tonnes under two different scenarios for local demand growth and operating rates. This huge difference, 3m tonnes, would have a major bearing on global supply and demand balances. This once again underlines how important China’s import demand is to the global business – and how, as China pushes closer to self-sufficiency, small changes in local operating rates can make a big difference.
