Updated to Q1 2017
US mixed xylenes (MX) prices opened the first quarter on a strong note, reaching a 16-month high in the week ended 20 January. Prices were pushed higher at the start of the quarter due to increased crude oil costs and record high US gasoline exports to Mexico, which supported demand for MX as a gasoline blending component. MX prices began to lose ground as high prices in the US began to attract imports from Asia and Europe. MX trading activity remained quiet for much of February as prices gradually declined, while prices stabilised in early March after deals provided some direction to the market.
