Insight and analysis of factors driving prices.
After a summer slump, flexible polyols prices rose in September on the back of increased demand from the bedding and furniture sector and an expected firmer feedstock settlement.
After the feedstock settled €60/tonne higher, polyols prices were assessed higher €30/tonne and €40/tonne higher on the low and top end of the range respectively. Producers subsequently targeted further increases in order to recover profit margins, which were chipped away in the summer.
In October, prices were heard to be stable to firm despite a €40/tonne feedstock price reduction as demand grew and producers implemented increases that were postponed in September. October prices subsequently firmed by €60/tonne on both ends of the ICIS range.
In November, propylene feedstock prices softened by €30/tonne but polyols prices were quoted stable to slightly firmer as availability for upstream propylene oxide (PO) is low due to ongoing maintenance works.
